This is a very old 1920 book in a series of 3 books. Oriole is separated form her parents in a shipwreck and taken on board another ship, which also wrecks off the coast of a Maine island. Shes rescued by the lighthouse keeper. Unable to find her parents, Oriole lives with the old man and his housekeeper.

There is another shipwreck and together Oriole and Old Nat save 4 year-old twins. Eventually they reunite the twins with their rich father. Many coincidences are to be found in these pages. The writing is typical for a 1920s book. There is a lot of dialect that you have to wade through to understand what is being said. The thoughts of the times and the treatment of people, kids in particular, are enough to make a modern reader scream with frustration! But as a period piece, its a fun series to read.
